GWM's Momentum Builds: P-Series Climbs to 4th Best-Selling Bakkie as Brand Showcases Full Range at NAMPO 2026

June 2, 2026

It is shaping up to be a landmark year for GWM in South Africa, and GWM Bronkhorstspruit, part of the Digi Cars Group, is proud to bring our customers along for the ride. Two recent milestones tell the story: the GWM P-Series climbing to 4th place among the country’s best-selling bakkies in April, and a bold, diverse brand showcase at the 58th NAMPO Harvest Day in Bothaville.

Together, these moments reflect a brand that is no longer the new arrival in South Africa. GWM has firmly established itself as a serious contender across bakkie, SUV, off-road and new energy segments, and our showroom in Bronkhorstspruit is where you can experience it all first-hand.

P-Series Hits a New High in the Bakkie Rankings

The GWM P-Series continues to strengthen its position in one of the country’s most competitive segments, climbing to 4th place among South Africa’s best-selling bakkies in April 2026, its highest ranking to date.

This follows a strong March, where the P-Series secured 5th place with 785 units sold. This improved ranking reflects growing market acceptance and sustained demand, as more customers turn to GWM for value-driven capability and advanced features.

A Journey Built on Substance

Since launching in 2020, the P-Series has steadily evolved into a serious contender in the South African bakkie market. That growth has been built on continuous product innovation, strategic range expansion, and a focus on delivering high levels of specification at competitive price points.

A defining moment in that journey came when the GWM P500 HEV Ultra Luxury 4×4 9AT was selected South African Bakkie of the Year 2024, a recognition that highlighted the model’s combination of performance, refinement and sophisticated hybrid technology. It proved beyond doubt that GWM can compete at the very top of the segment.

Globally, the investment continues. At the recent Beijing Auto Show, GWM unveiled a plug-in hybrid version of the P300, signalling the next phase of electrification within the bakkie portfolio. While not yet confirmed for the South African market, it is a clear indication of where the P-Series is heading.

A Bold Showcase at NAMPO 2026

While the P-Series was making headlines on the sales charts, GWM was simultaneously putting on one of the brand’s most diverse and ambitious displays yet at the 58th NAMPO Harvest Day, held in Bothaville, Free State.

NAMPO remains one of the largest agricultural exhibitions in the Southern Hemisphere, drawing farmers, agribusiness leaders, fleet operators and decision makers from across the country. For GWM, it was a chance to showcase the full breadth of the brand across off-road capability, lifestyle SUVs and new energy mobility.

The NAMPO Line-Up

The vehicles on display reflected just how broad the GWM offering has become:

  • TANK 300 Diesel, designed for challenging terrain and remote environments
  • TANK 500 Black Edition, balancing serious capability with premium comfort and space
  • HAVAL H6 PHEV, bringing hybrid efficiency to one of the brand’s most popular SUVs
  • HAVAL H7 Black Edition, built for customers seeking practicality, safety and lifestyle versatility
  • Jolion Pro Special Edition, the latest evolution of one of GWM’s most loved lifestyle SUVs

The TANK 300 on the 4x4 Track

A highlight of the NAMPO activation was the chance for visitors to experience the TANK 300 Diesel on a dedicated 4×4 track, engaging directly with the vehicle’s off-road capability, traction and durability in a controlled environment designed to simulate challenging terrain and everyday adventure conditions. It reinforced the TANK brand’s positioning as a capable and refined off-road offering suited to both demanding work environments and recreational lifestyles.

A First Look at the All-New ORA 5

Also generating significant attention was the all-new ORA 5, showcased ahead of its local launch. Originally introduced to South Africa in 2023 as a fully electric offering, ORA is evolving into a broader mobility brand, with future ICE, HEV and BEV powertrain options planned for the local market. Its inclusion at NAMPO signals the growing relevance of new energy mobility across a wider range of customer lifestyles, including well beyond traditional urban spaces.
